Help & FAQ

Common questions from student athletes, parents, and coaches.

Getting started

If you're new to SelfRecruit.me, start here.

How is this different from a recruiting service?

Traditional recruiting services charge $1,000–$5,000 to send your highlight reel to coaches on your behalf. They keep your contact information and act as the middleman. SelfRecruit.me gives you the same tools — 1,100+ NCAA programs, verified coach contacts, personalized email drafts ready to edit — and lets you send everything from your own email, directly. You own the relationship with every coach. No middleman, no markup, no recurring fees.

What does it cost?

Two tiers:

Waitlist members get the Upperclassman fee waived for the launch promotion. Join the waitlist if you haven't yet.

When can I start contacting coaches?

NCAA contact-period rules vary by sport. For most sports, coaches can begin direct contact with rising juniors on June 15 after sophomore year. Football, golf, and tennis open on September 1 of junior year. The platform knows your sport and graduation year — it'll prompt you when your contact window opens, and queue any draft emails you write before then so they send the moment the period opens.

How do you have so many coach emails?

Most coach contacts come from public NCAA athletics-program staff directories. Where a directory doesn't publish an email, we sometimes infer one based on the school's published email pattern (e.g., firstname.lastname@school.edu). Inferred emails are clearly labeled "Inferred" in the app so you can decide how to use them. Verified emails (scraped from official sources) are labeled "Verified".

Using the platform

What happens after I email a coach?

Your email goes to the coach from your own email address (Gmail or Outlook, via secure OAuth). Replies land in your normal inbox AND in the SelfRecruit Recruiting Inbox tab. The platform tracks which coaches have replied, which haven't, and reminds you when to follow up. You stay in control of every conversation.

Can I edit the generated email draft before sending?

Yes — always. We generate a personalized first draft using your profile, the school, and the coach's role. You then edit subject, body, and tone freely before hitting Send. Most users tweak 10–20% of each draft to add a personal touch.

What's the Roster Matches / School Matches tab?

Roster Matches walks every NCAA program in your primary sport, looks at the position you play, and ranks programs by depth-chart fit (e.g. how many seniors are graduating at your position, how many freshmen are already there, how the program's recruiting class is shaping up). School Matches combines that roster fit with academic fit (your GPA/SAT/ACT vs the school's profile) to bucket every school into Reach, Realistic, or Safety.

Can I sign in with Google or Microsoft?

Yes — both. Sign-in with Google or Microsoft is the recommended path because it also enables the Recruiting Inbox (we read coach replies from your mailbox). You can also sign in with a one-time email code if you prefer not to connect a mailbox; you'll still get the full app, but the Recruiting Inbox tab will be empty.

How do I add SelfRecruit to my mobile device home screen?

SelfRecruit.me works on any browser, but you can also add it to your phone's home screen so it launches like a regular app — full-screen, with its own icon, and faster on repeat opens. Setup takes about 10 seconds:

iPhone or iPad (Safari only — Chrome / Firefox on iOS can't do this; Apple restricts it):

Android (Chrome / Edge / Samsung Internet):

Android Firefox:

Desktop (Chrome / Edge):

Inside Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, or another app's browser? Tap that app's ⋯ menu → Open in Safari (iPhone) or Open in Chrome (Android) first. In-app browsers can't add pages to your home screen.

Why bother? Faster launch, no browser bar eating screen space, your sign-in stays cached. Your data still saves to the same account either way — this is purely a launcher convenience, not a separate app.

Privacy & data

Who sees my profile?

Only you and the coaches you choose to email. We don't share or sell your profile to anyone, and coaches can't browse a directory of athletes — we don't have one. Every coach interaction starts when YOU email them.

What data do you store?

Your name, email, graduation year, sport, profile fields you fill in, schools you save, emails you send, and replies you receive. We never store passwords (sign-in is via OTP code or OAuth). Full detail in our Privacy Policy.

Can I delete my account?

Yes — anytime, from Profile settings. Deletion is a 60-day soft-delete (recoverable in case you change your mind), then permanent purge. You can also email privacy@selfrecruit.me to request a full data export before deleting.

Troubleshooting

I'm not getting the sign-in code email

Check your spam folder first. If still missing after 5 minutes, try a different sign-in path (Google or Microsoft OAuth). If both fail, email support@selfrecruit.me with the email address you're trying to use.

A coach's email looks wrong

If you spot a wrong coach email, name, or title, click the "Report a problem" link in the app. Our data team reviews reports within a few business days and updates the database. Inferred emails (labeled in the app) bounce more often than verified ones — that's normal; just resend through a verified contact when you find one.

The Recruiting Inbox isn't showing replies

Two common causes: (1) you signed in with a one-time email code instead of Google/Microsoft, so there's no mailbox connected — re-sign-in with OAuth fixes it; (2) the coach replied to a different email address than the one you're signed in with. The platform reads from your connected mailbox only.

Didn't find what you were looking for?
